There are many different types of drugs that society uses on a daily basis- and much of this is due to an addiction. But getting drug treatment isn't going to help if the victim doesn't want to go, or even consider getting help for their addiction. If that is the case, there are several techniques that can help aid the process. The first step in the intervention process is to get as many family members and friends as possible, and have them each cite a small speech on how they care for the individual. Each should state that a drug treatment program will help the victim get his or her life back on track. It should also be stated from the beginning that drug treatment is not a punishment- a way to start one's life all over again. If the drug addict has been a long time user, it's very possible that their life is showing effects of their addiction. If that is the case, it's important to describe in detail how the choices the user made has already affected their life, and how it will continue to do so if they do not make abrupt changes. It's good to make example of any educational or employment opportunities that they have ruined as a result of their addiction.
Studies show that drug addicts who are still getting benefits from their families and friends will be less likely to seek drug treatment and genuinely try their best at becoming free from their addiction. This is simple: if the drug addict can still collect allowance, car rides, and other benefits from their acquaintances, they will continue to do so to the best of their ability. Cutting off these benefits is the best way to ensure that they will think harder about seeking help. Drug treatment programs can indeed make a world of difference in the life of a drug addict. A good idea in convincing a drug addict of this is to simply show examples of how drug treatment programs have affected the lives of others. If applicable, it is a very good idea to get someone who has been through the drug treatment process to make a small motivational speech to the person addicted to drugs- as this can help in more ways than one. Also giving examples of celebrity mishaps and mishaps of friends or family members is a good idea. Showing how their lives were ruined because of their drug addiction will prove that the currently addicted drug addict will also go down the same road. This example will show how drugs have not only affected the lives of others, but also shows how the life of the drug addict will take a turn for the worst. Final Thoughts Drug treatment programs are available in even smaller towns and cities- so finding a worthy program shouldn't take too long. The real problem is getting the drug addict in question to admit they have a problem and to seek help from a drug treatment program. If all else fails, be sure to exhibit tough love in hopes that in due time the drug addict will realize their mistake and opt for drug treatment. Chris Channing |
